The UTSW Innovative Mentorship Program for Academic Clinician Teachers (IMPACT) Program helps educators take their teaching skills to the next level while also supporting their personal professional development.

The innovative, competency-based curriculum provides meaningful learning opportunities through guided and personally tailored mentorship. With the support of faculty coaches and subject matter experts, participants develop and execute individualized learning plans aligned to their current and future professional goals as educators.

Mentor coaches guide faculty through Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for teaching faculty that provide evidence of competence in core education-related domains. The curriculum includes interactive workshops in teaching practice, education theory, curriculum design, assessment, research, scholarship, and more!

Eligibility and Applications

  • Eligibility

    Open to early career Clinician-Educator faculty.

  • Applications

    The following materials must be submitted for consideration.

    A completed online application with the following attachments:

    • An updated CV in the UTSW format
    • A personal statement
    • A letter of support from your division or department leadership
  • Notifications

    Notifications will be sent out no later than January 9, 2026 before the program begins.

  • Workshops

    In-Person: Attendance is required

  • Lunch and Learns

    Virtual: Attendance is optional, but highly recommended

    Please mark your calendars for the following dates (Starting Tuesday, March 10, 2026):

    • 2nd Tuesdays 12:00pm - 1:00pm
  • Lunch Meetings

    In-Person: Attendance is required for at least one lunch

  • Graduation

    In-Person: Attendance is highly recommended

Educator Capstone

  • What is an Educator Capstone?

    An educator capstone is a scholarly, practice-based project that demonstrates growth as an educator and contributes to the UTSW learning community. Through the capstone, participants apply educational theory to practice, produce a tangible work product, and gain mentorship in education leadership.

  • What are examples of Capstones?

    Capstones may take many forms, including:

    • Development or redesign of a curriculum or simulation
    • Creation of an assessment, feedback, or reflection tool
    • Implementation of a faculty-development or learner-coaching initiative
    • Design of an educational research or scholarship project for presentation or publication.
