Residency Informational Session

PGY2 Oncology Informational Session will be hosted at various times from September to November with specific times to be provided soon. Please refer back to this page closer to September for the specific dates and times of these virtual sessions

  • DFW Residency Showcase at Pegasus Park on Monday, November 9 from 5-7 p.m. CST
  • ASHP Midyear Residency Showcase Booth #4108 on Monday, December 7 from 1-4 p.m. EST

The PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy residency program at UTSW is a one-year post-graduate training program designed to prepare oncology specialists through opportunities in leadership, clinical experience, administration, formulary management, and clinical research.

Purpose

The PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Program will provide the resident with opportunities to function as an independent practitioner by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete the program will be prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Rotations

Residents will gain experience and training in the following clinical service areas:

  • Orientation (4 weeks)
  • Breast (4 weeks)
  • Gastrointestinal/Pancreatic (3 weeks)
  • Thoracic (3 weeks)
  • Genitourinary and Neurological Cancers (3 weeks)
  • Inpatient Medical Oncology (4 weeks)
  • Gynecologic Oncology (3 weeks)
  • Inpatient Non-myeloid Hematology (3 weeks)
  • Myeloma (2 weeks)
  • Lymphoma (2-3 weeks)
  • Inpatient Leukemia and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant (4 weeks)
  • Outpatient Leukemia (3-4 weeks)

Elective Rotations

  • Informatics (3-4 weeks)
  • Phase I Clinical Research (3-4 weeks)
  • Cancer Genetics and Pharmacogenomics (2-3 weeks)

Longitudinal Experiences

  • Oncology Longitudinal Research Project (52 weeks with 4 weeks of dedicated research time)
  • Oncology Infusion Pharmacy Practice (52 weeks scheduled every third week or weekend)
  • Oncology Leadership and Management (52 weeks)
  • Oncology Clinical Trial and Protocol Review (6-9 months)

Program Expectations

  • ACPE-accredited CE presentation
  • Major research project and manuscript
  • Present major research project at a regional or national meeting
