Madhuri Nagaraj, M.D. (with coauthors Campbell K, Rege R, Mihalic A, Scott D) received an Excellence in Research Award for At-Home Medical Student Simulation: Achieving Knot-Tying Proficiency Using Video-Based Assessment from the judges for the upcoming ​American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress.

Rachael Clark, M.D., won the award for Best Poster Blast Presentation for Induction of SHMT2 Promotes Tumorigenesis in High-Risk Neuroblastoma.

Heidi Emrani, M.D., won the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Award for Disparities of Breast Cancer Treatment and Survival Between Safety Net Hospitals and Non-Safety Net Hospitals in Texas.

Geoffrey Hespe, M.D., won the award for Best Regular Presentation for Characterizing the Immune Cell Niche in Extremity Trauma Through Single-Cell RNA Sequencing.

Huocong Huang, M.D., Ph.D., won the Center for Organogenesis Research and Trauma (CORT) Award for Mesothelial Cell-Derived Antigen-Presenting Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts Induce Expansion of Regulatory T Cells in Pancreatic Cancer.

Michelle Ju, M.D., received an honorable mention from the judges of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award for Disparities in Receipt of Guideline-Concordant Treatment and Survival Outcomes Among Border County Residents With Gastric Cancer in Texas.

John Karalis, M.D., won the Cancer Center Award for Lenvatinib Inhibits the Growth of Gastric Cancer Patient-Derived Xenografts Derived From a Heterogeneous Western Population.

Jennie Meier, M.D., won the Surgical Center for Outcomes, Implementation, and Novel Interventions (S-COIN) Award for Locoregional Anesthesia for Major Surgery in Frail Adults May Reduce Postoperative Morbidity and Mortality.

Announcements

Michael Dellinger, Ph.D., was selected to organize an international patient and scientific conference on rare lymphatic diseases for the Lymphangiomatosis & Gorham’s Disease Alliance.

Daniel Scott, M.D., completed his term as the 2020-2021 president of the Association for Surgical Education and gave a presidential address at the organization’s annual meeting on April 29, 2021.

Shirling Tsai, M.D., was selected to be an associate editor for the Annals of Vascular Surgery.
