Emina Huang, M.D., served as the co-director of the second annual meeting of the National Cancer Institute’sTissue Engineering Collaborative on July 19-20, 2021. 

She also served on the first review panel for the National Surgeon Scientist Program, which provides funding to surgeon-scientistswho are 1-5 years into their first faculty position. The program’s goal is to foster early basic or translational research by creating a pipeline of successful, independent surgeon investigators.Itis a collaborationbetween the American College of Surgeons,the National Cancer Institute, and the applicants’ home institutions.

The Department of Surgery’s research support groupis now branded as “SPAR,”an acronym forSurgical Partners in Research.Thename was selected from over 30 submissions via an intra-groupcompetitionDave Primm, M.A.,submitted the winning name.
