The Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern is proud to offer its Fellowship in Academic Global Surgery. The Fellowship addresses the issues of global surgery and prepares you to take on a leadership role in this expanding field. It is the first Fellowship Program of its kind in Texas and one of only a handful throughout the country.

Our Mission: The training of surgical educators and the discovery of new knowledge to correct the global disparity in access to surgical care.

Goals:

  • To engage in international academic research, discovery, and training that will tackle the burden of surgical disease
  • To implement skills needed to deliver quality surgical care to developing areas of the world
  • To develop academic and clinical skills in global surgery and humanitarian aid

A combined program of the UT Southwestern Department of Surgery, the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions, and the Dallas Regional Campus of the UT School of Public Health at the Health Science Center at Houston, the Global Health Surgical Fellowship trains physicians who will further promote surgical care, education, and research relevant in the global surgery arena.

Our Fellowship Program consist of three parts:

  • An academic component
  • A clinical/research component incorporating scholarly activity here and abroad
  • Completion of a Capstone project

Trainees will receive a "Certificate in Global Health" upon successful completion of the Fellowship Program.
