Drugs being investigated for pain relief may prevent heterotopic ossification, study suggests. Blocking a molecule that draws sensory nerves into musculoskeletal injuries prevents heterotopic ossification (HO), a process in which bone abnormally grows in soft tissue during healing, UT Southwestern researchers reported in a study.

  • Program Development Award 2025

    Samuel Mandell, M.D., won the Program Development Award at UT Southwestern for his burn reconstruction program. Under his guidance, the number of reconstruction procedures on our campus has expanded dramatically, and he has fostered advanced treatments, research, and new clinics for burns throughout the UT Southwestern system.

  • Rising Star Award 2025

    Caroline Park, M.D., won the 2025 Rising Star Award at UT Southwestern, which is one of our university’s Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awards. Only two Rising Star Awards were given this year, which honor junior faculty members whose remarkable clinical and academic performance mark them as future leaders in their fields.
