Maria Cristina Magallanes Hoyos, M.D.

Maria Cristina Magallanes Hoyos, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she serves in the Division of Genomic and Molecular Pathology and Hematopathology, and as Associate Medical Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. Dr. Magallanes Hoyos earned her medical degree with honors in Mexico, completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Oregon Health & Science University — where she was Chief Resident — and pursued fellowships in Molecular Genetic Pathology at OHSU and Hematopathology at Mass General Brigham.

Dr. Magallanes Hoyos has held leadership roles at both national and institutional levels. Within the College of American Pathologists (CAP), she contributed as a junior member of the CAP Curriculum Committee, the House of Delegates Steering Committee, and the Resident Forum Executive Committee. At OHSU, she was a trainee member of the ACGME Resident Diversity Committee, a member of the GME Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee, and served on the Department of Pathology Educational Committee.

She received the CAP Foundation Leadership Development Award (2021) from the CAP and the Society of ’67 Kinney Scholar Award from the Association of Pathology Chairs (2021).

Dr. Magallanes Hoyos is also an active member of multiple professional societies, including the Society for Hematopathology, Association for Molecular Pathology, College of American Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the Association for Pathology Informatics.
