Clinical Facilities

All clinical facilities are located on the Southwestern Medical District campus and can be easily reached without driving. Both UT Southwestern and Dallas County have state-of-the-art hospitals and nearby ambulatory surgery centers and outpatient clinics.

Parkland Health

Dedicated to providing care for all residents of Dallas County, regardless of ability to pay, the Parkland Health provides the full spectrum of clinical services, ranging from outpatient clinics with more than 400,000 visits annually to a hospital with a Level I emergency department.

Parkland Memorial Hospital was founded in 1894 and is operated by the Dallas County Hospital District. It is the major teaching unit of UT Southwestern Medical School.

On August 20, 2015, Dallas County opened its new 2.1 million-square-foot hospital located on a park-like campus on the northeast corner of Harry Hines Boulevard and Medical District Drive – across the street from the old Parkland Memorial Hospital. The hospital has 862 single-patient rooms with an abundance of natural light. Each zone-designed room includes a vision panel that looks into the hallway, visually connecting the patient with caregivers.

Every aspect of the hospital's operation is controlled by a system of integrated digital technology and has been designed to enable adaptation to future medical needs and facilitate the training requirements for medical students, residents, and fellows. The hospital has:

• A Level III neonatal intensive care unit with 96 individual rooms
• 24 surgical suites
• Two endoscopy suites
• 83 adult intensive care rooms

A library, named in honor of Ob/Gyn Chairman Emeritus Jack A. Pritchard, M.D., offers a quiet place for trainees to relax and study.

Parkland Ambulatory Services

Parkland Health operates 10 neighborhood women's health centers throughout Dallas County. Under faculty supervision, nurse practitioners and nurse midwives provide gynecological, prenatal, family planning, and well-woman care. Patients who are identified with gynecological problems are referred to the Gynecology Specialty Clinic on the second floor of the Women and Infants Specialty Health (WISH) Clinic in Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Located across Medical Center Drive from Parkland Memorial Hospital, Parkland's Simmons Ambulatory Surgery Center offers state-of-the-art technology for ambulatory surgical cases.

UT Southwestern Medical Center

UT Southwestern Medical Center operates William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion – William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, a neurological diagnostic and treatment center. Ambulatory services are delivered at several venues on campus as well as at community health centers in the surrounding area.

Opened on December 6, 2014, the 1.3 million-square-foot Clements University Hospital is home to:

• Obstetrics and gynecology
• Cardiology
• General internal medicine and subspecialties
• General surgery
• Vascular surgery
• Oncologic surgery
• Hematologic malignancies
• Orthopedics
• Emergency medicine

It also houses all of the solid organ transplant programs, as well as a Level III neonatal intensive care unit that is operated in collaboration with Children's Health℠ Children's Medical Center Dallas. Its 24 surgical suites have state-of-the-art equipment and video conferencing to facilitate intra-surgical discussions among surgeons, pathologists, and other caregivers.

Almost all of the private surgery performed by UT Southwestern Ob/Gyn faculty members is done here, including benign gynecology, fertility and reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology, and urogynecology.

The hospital was designed to enhance the learning experience of trainees while providing patients with a welcoming, comfortable ambiance. The 460 single-patient rooms have the latest in-room technological features and video conferencing capabilities. Nursing alcoves outside each patient's room enable caregivers to monitor patients through specially designed privacy windows.

The hospital also has conference rooms on each floor and special "touchdown" areas for smaller groups of faculty, fellows, residents, and students to confer.

UT Southwestern Ambulatory Services

UT Southwestern's Outpatient Building provides state-of-the-art technology for ambulatory surgical cases. Located near Clements University Hospital, this seven-floor clinical center also includes full laboratory and radiology services as well as outpatient clinics. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology's Fertility and Advanced Reproductive Endocrinology Clinic and Urogynecology and Pelvic Floor Disorders Clinic are located on the sixth floor of this facility.

The Lowe Foundation Center for Women's Preventative Health Care provides an integrated approach to healthcare for peri- and postmenopausal women. Conveniently located near the Outpatient Building, the Lowe Women's Center is on the fifth floor of Professional Office Building 2, adjacent to the Ob/Gyn and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic.

The Pediatric-Adolescent Gynecology Program cares for girls from birth to age 19. A joint venture between UT Southwestern and Children's Health, the program provides outpatient and inpatient services at Children's Medical Center Dallas, adjacent to UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Training and Research Facilities

Begun in 2002, the Anatomy Lab, under the direction of Marlene Corton, M.D., is an ongoing course in pelvic anatomy and laparoscopic surgery with fresh cadaver dissection. It is part of the educational curriculum in gynecologic surgery of the UT Southwestern Ob/Gyn Residency Program. The course was incorporated into the urogynecology resident rotation and involves residents as well as fellows in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery and in complex benign gynecology.

The Simulation Center is a multidisciplinary, freestanding simulation training center on the UT Southwestern campus. Educational research and technical skills curricula are provided by the Center, which serves as a rich training and research resource for the fellow. The Center has excellent physical facilities, personnel, and about $4 million in simulation equipment, including:

• A Simulation and Training Laboratory (Skills Lab) that has a wide range of task trainers, simulators, computers, and numerous other materials.
• A Robotic Training Facility that is fully equipped with a Da Vinci S Console, Vision Cart, Surgeon Cart, and a standalone da Vinci Surgical Skills Simulator laboratory.
• A Virtual OR (VOR) Team Training Facility that has a fully equipped operating suite, six cameras, a two-way audio feed, and a control room with recording equipment, housed behind a two-way mirror.
• A 3,039-square-foot teleconferencing center with a seating capacity of 50 people. Capable of broadcasting worldwide, the Center also includes breakout rooms and ancillary facilities.
• An Animal Lab Facility, used for both teaching and research, that houses a dedicated Endosuite capable of open, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures. The 352-square-foot suite has an additional 385 square feet of storage and administrative space.
• A 3,500-square-foot Cadaver Lab, under the direction of the Department of Anatomy and the Willed Body Program, is used for teaching and research purposes.
