Termination of CHNV Parole Program

Termination of CHNV Parole Program

On March 25, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the termination of the Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV) parole program. As part of this announcement, DHS stated that all CHNV parole would end on April 24, 2025, unless it had already expired before that date.

Several UTSW employees are affected by this termination. DHS is now notifying impacted individuals that their parole status has been revoked and that they must depart the U.S. immediately—unless they have obtained another lawful immigration status—to avoid accruing unlawful presence.

Please Note:

  • Accruing 180 days to less than one year of unlawful presence can trigger a 3-year bar on reentry to the U.S.
  • More than one year of unlawful presence can result in a 10-year bar.
