M.D. with Distinction in Global Health
The M.D. with Distinction in Global Health provides students with the opportunity to conduct global health research and gain clinical experience in international settings over the four years of their medical school training. This is a research-intensive program. There are three ways to earn a Distinction in Global Health: the integrated track, the independent track, and IMEP. All three are designed to promote a progressive approach towards education and research and encourage critical thinking skills that are focused on addressing obstacles in global health.

Producing Novel Data
Producing novel data in the clinical sciences through therapeutic, developmental, and health services research.

Improving Health
Improve health outcomes and promote health equity.

Learning Cultural Humility
Learning cultural humility while developing their expertise in caring for patients in diverse healthcare settings.
Individuals satisfying the program requirements will be recognized at graduation and on their diploma as graduating with a degree in Medicine, with distinction in Global Health.

Global Health-Related Activity
A total of 24 weeks of global health-related activity, completed through:
- ENRH 134 Global Health Summer Research Elective (8 weeks)
- SCH 1705 Scholarly Activity (12 weeks)
- Senior Clinical Elective in an international setting (4 weeks)

Abstract Submission/Poster Presentation
Abstract submission/poster presentation to the UTSW Medical Student Research Forum (MSRF) and to a global health conference (Unite for Sight or CUGH). Default to your mentor’s conference preference.

Capstone Thesis and Presentation
Capstone Thesis and presentation before graduation, drawn from the student's Research elective and/or Scholarly Activity experience.
