Scott M. Grundy, M.D., Ph.D., a Professor in the Center for Human Nutrition whose research on the metabolic determinants of atherosclerosis has been instrumental in formulating approaches to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease, died on Jan. 29.

UTSW doctors discovered an abscess of unknown origin pressing against Veronica Luna's spinal cord. The infection was growing rapidly, threatening permanent damage. Emergency surgery relieved the pressure, but it was intensive physical therapy and coordinated rehabilitation that led to a successful recovery.
