Update: Dec. 10, 2020

We're in the final days to support the 2020 State Employee Charitable Campaign

There is still time to help our community neighbors in need this holiday season. The deadline for giving to the Texas State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) is tomorrow, Dec. 11. To date, 793 UT Southwestern employees have raised more than $322,860 to provide meals to those facing food insecurity during the pandemic and aid for other programs that help Texans remain healthy and safe.

We have met our campaign goal, but we still need your help. Last year, we raised more than $350,000 – can we beat that? We encourage all to support those who are providing critical resources and services to our local community and across the country. You can donate directly to organizations you are passionate about by downloading the list of charities and their corresponding codes. Once you have chosen which causes to support, follow the instructions for donating via payroll deduction (VPN access required).

We also recognize the departments who have rallied their employees and have the highest participation rates so far. Departments are ranked based on dollar amount raised, divided by the employee headcount of the department. Here are the top 20 departments so far:

Don’t see your department on the list but still want to know where you stand? Download the detailed report. Tomorrow is the last day to participate. For further information and updates throughout the campaign, visit utsouthwestern.edu/secc2020 or secc-campaign@utsouthwestern.edu the SECC Committee.

Update: Nov. 16, 2020

SECC: Halfway through the campaign, only a third to our goal

We need your help. Thanks to 278 UTSW employees, we’ve raised $110,000 for the 2020 State Employee Charitable Campaign. However, we are already halfway through the campaign and our goal is to raise $300,000 – we’ve raised just over a third of that.

Join those 278 employees in giving back to our communities in their great time of need – especially to the organizations that have so graciously given to our frontline workers and patients during the pandemic. Even if you can only give a little, your contribution adds up.

You have until Nov. 30 to participate. For further information and updates throughout the campaign, visit utsouthwestern.edu/secc2020 or secc-campaign@utsouthwestern.edu the SECC Committee.

Update: Nov. 13, 2020

SECC: Every donation makes a difference

We’re close to halfway through the 2020 State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) and have raised more than $100,000! We’ve reached that milestone through the contributions of 246 employees – that’s just 1 percent of our workforce. Imagine the change we would make as an institution if everyone who could made a small donation via payroll deduction.

  • $2 PER MONTH for one year provides vital cancer survivorship information and support to 80 cancer survivors or covers the cost of planting 100 tree saplings.
  • $5 PER MONTH for one year provides adaptive aids for personal care to make life easier for ALS patients or teaching materials for 30 at-risk students for one school year.
  • $10 PER MONTH for one year will help a family in crisis with their monthly utility or grocery bills or provide one mammogram for an uninsured woman.
  • $20 PER MONTH for one year provides food for one guide dog in advanced training or supports training in an environmental career for a person with a disability.

One of the great benefits of the SECC is the more than 500 state-vetted charities and causes represented, ranging from small local organizations to large and well-known national and international groups. To find the charities that matter to you, download the list of charities and their corresponding codes. Once you’ve found your favorite charities, simply follow the instructions for donating via payroll deduction (VPN access required). You have until Nov. 30 to participate.

Update: Nov. 3, 2020

A note from the SECC Co-Chairs: Stand Texas Strong with the 2020 State Employee Charitable Campaign

To the UT Southwestern community:

In the wake of COVID-19, nonprofit organizations have faced their greatest challenge yet as more people than ever are seeking resources and services. We are entering a season of giving where the UT Southwestern community has the opportunity to be a force for positive change.

This month marks the launch of the 2020 State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) – the only authorized workplace charitable giving campaign for state agency and higher education employees in Texas. From now through Nov. 30, UT Southwestern employees can make an important impact by donating to any of several hundred state-vetted charities through payroll deduction.

We understand this year has been difficult for many employees and their families; we encourage you to give what you can. Many of these organizations have helped our institution through numerous donations of personal protective equipment and meals for our front-line staff. SECC is an opportunity for us to return that kindness and support our community members in need. Every dollar contributes to making our community and our world a better place.

It is not lost on us that COVID-19 has brought financial hardships to many. Instead of keeping last year’s $400,000 goal, we are aiming to raise $300,000 this year. If every UTSW employee gave just $15/year to the SECC, we’d meet our goal. You can stay up-to-date on our progress throughout the campaign.

We invite you to join in our effort to turn compassion into action this fall. Donating is easy and convenient, and can be done entirely within PeopleSoft.

Sincerely,

Helen Yin, Ph.D.
