Performance Management process upgrade now live

Update: Oct. 15, 2019

Phase 1 of the Performance Management process, Goal Setting, is underway

Setting priorities and goals at the beginning of the fiscal year is important in gaining clarity in what you would like to accomplish this year. Make your goals SMART:

  • Specific
  • Measureable
  • Achievable/Attainable
  • Realistic/Relevant
  • Timely/Time-bound

Developing goals and entering them into the tool by early November provides time for you and your manager to track progress toward those goals. Performance management year events are as follows:

  • Goal setting: September/October
  • Midyear check-in: January
  • Appraisal and calibration: May/June
  • Merit planning: June
  • Merit effective date: Sept. 1, 2020

The New Performance Management process provides an opportunity to align job responsibilities with organizational/department initiatives. Training is available to managers and employees to assist in the navigation of the new performance management tool and process. Join us for training either online or by registering in Taleo and attending Goal Setting and Performance Workshops, Learning Labs, and Webinars (see locations and dates).

Original announcement: Sept. 16, 2019

You weighed in, and we listened. On Sept. 23, UT Southwestern will launch a new online annual performance review tool designed with your professional success top of mind.

Our goal is to enhance the performance management process and achieve the following benefits for our employees:

Clarity

The first step to accomplishing goals is gaining clarity on what you want and need to achieve. Our new performance management process makes setting priorities easier and more transparent. You will be able to align your job responsibilities and goals with your team and department, enabling you to focus on the most important priorities that further our mission. In addition, a new rating process focuses on what you achieved and how you live out UT Southwestern’s core values in your daily work.

Communication

Receiving feedback – both positive and constructive – is essential for career growth and development. The new process fosters an environment of continual learning, with employees able to provide suggestions for working more effectively at the mid-year and year-end evaluations, and managers supporting their team with ongoing recognition and suggestions for improvement year-round.

Continuous improvement

We are committed to providing high quality, efficient tools to elevate every employee’s experience. The new online performance management tool replaces the previous paper-based form and makes your goal-setting, and career and development plans available with a simple click.

Starting Sept. 23 and continuing through October, training and guides will be available to employees and managers, either online or by registering in Taleo and attending Goal Setting and Performance Workshops, Learning Labs, and Webinars (see locations and dates). For support following the launch, a command center will be available Sept. 23-26 at extension 87600, option 5.
