Moving to a new online performance management tool and process

UT Southwestern is committed to the growth and development of every employee. Providing an opportunity for honest and sincere feedback is one of the ways we can continue to thrive as individuals and as an organization doing important work in research, education, and clinical care.

In September 2019, UT Southwestern will be moving to an online performance management tool and process to kick off the FY20 process for Classified and A&P employees. (This new system does not include the faculty appraisal process.) Recognizing the unique needs across the various missions of education, research, and patient care, we will be working closely with the departments to ensure the new tool meets your needs.

The new features will help employees and managers clarify and align responsibilities based on organizational, departmental, and team priorities. The system also includes a career and professional development section to encourage growth, engagement, and skill building. In addition, aligning performance management with the fiscal year will allow us to more effectively sync and streamline our operations with our people processes.

There is no change for the current FY19 performance year, so to complete this year’s appraisal please use the same appraisal forms, process, and timing as you have previously. The Performance Management webpage on MyUTSW contains links to forms and resources for your convenience.

Key dates:

  • All Classified and A&P employees will remain on their respective paper performance evaluations and timing for this fiscal year, FY19.
  • Employee and Manager Performance discussions should be finished by Aug. 15, with completed appraisals to HR no later than Sept. 16.
  • Merits for FY19 for eligible employees will be effective Sept. 1.
  • The new performance evaluation tool will open at the beginning of the fiscal year in September. Training for managers and employees will be available at the launch of the new online system in September 2019.

The Performance Management webpage is a resource of helpful tips and tools to assist employees and managers in preparing for performance discussions. The FY20 performance process is scheduled to begin in September; updates to information will be communicated and housed on the site for easy access.
