Six clinics recognized for flu campaign achievement

Flu season is over, and if you or your coworkers escaped the flu, a chunk of credit goes to UT Southwestern’s devotion to patient-centric care.

An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against flu, so UT Southwestern made it a priority to promote the importance of getting the flu vaccination.

With overwhelming institutional participation, UTSW’s 2018 flu vaccine campaign efforts reached a vaccination and documentation rate of 75 percent. This exceeded the campaign’s goal of 60 percent, and also beat out the 2017 rate of 44 percent.

During the 2017-2018 flu season, there were 49 million illnesses, 960,000 hospitalizations, and 79,000 flu-related deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Because of extensive participation in the campaign, UT Southwestern wants to recognize the clinics who consistently provided patient education and awareness around the flu shot. The top six contributing clinics – three high-volume and three low-volume – were presented a certificate of Influenza Immunization Excellence.
