Apply for the Department Administrator Professional Development Series program

Whether you are a seasoned administrator or someone aspiring to the role, the Department Administrator Professional Development Series program has something to offer you. With a deep dive into interpersonal/soft skills development, coupled with expanding or building a technical foundation, the program provides a well-rounded opportunity to grow.

Who is this for?

The program is for current department administrators and aspiring department administrators who desire to expand their knowledge on the skill set necessary to be an effective department administrator. Aspiring department administrators are expected to have completed at least one year of employment with UT Southwestern and have current or previous supervisory experience.

What is the selection process?

An application is required for aspiring department administrators. This includes a letter of interest from the applicant, submission of a current resume, completion of the Candidate Application, and completion of the Supervisor Assessment by your manager. Email the letter of interest and resume directly to departmentadministrator_pds@utsouthwestern.edu.

If you have any additional questions, you may contact Chasity Burris (chasity.burris@utsouthwestern.edu) or Desiree Spencer (desiree.spencer@utsouthwestern.edu).

What can I expect?

Current department administrators can expect to benefit from the program by sharpening knowledge, developing skills, and learning something new.

The program will introduce aspiring department administrators to the multifaceted role of the department administrator. Upon completion of the series, participants may be invited to serve on committees at the institutional level, providing an opportunity to expand skill sets, build relationships, and prepare for the next steps in their careers.

Program structure

Each month you will spend a half day in class with your cohort. The curriculum alternates monthly between technical- and behavioral-based, and spans the entire year. The program will commence in January 2020 with anticipated completion in December 2020. Additional readings or assessments will be required outside of the classroom.

Timeline

Applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 9, with a closing date of Sept. 27. Aspiring department administrator candidates will be required to participate in a brief interview Oct. 14-25. Selected candidates will be notified by Dec. 1.
