Employees celebrated for contributions, dedication to UTSW

Employee Recognition Week is a special time to recognize the hard work and outstanding service of employees across UT Southwestern Medical Center. Employees were celebrated in various ways throughout the week.

On Feb. 28, the Employee Advisory Council (EAC) held employee appreciation events at various locations across campus to thank employees for their contributions and dedication to the Medical Center. EAC members set up tables throughout campus and handed out fruit, cookies, and giveaways to employees. Items were also distributed at satellite locations.

The highlight of Employee Recognition Week was the Quarter Century Club luncheon on March 1. The Quarter Century Club was established in 1996 to honor employees with 25 or more years of service.

This year, 58 employees with 25 years of service were inducted into the Club, and an additional 54 were recognized for service milestones of 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 years. UT Southwestern President Daniel K. Podolsky, who is celebrating his 10th year with the Medical Center, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon.

“Today, we celebrate those who are new members of the Quarter Century Club and those 268 members who are already part of the club. When added up, we’re celebrating more than 11,000 years of UTSW service,” Dr. Podolsky said. “There are still thousands of others who aspire to be where you are today. I'm grateful to all of you. We are an exceptional institution because of our employees who come to campus each day inspired by our mission.”

In reflecting on UTSW’s 75th anniversary year, Dr. Podolsky shared some recent accomplishments.

“Any employee who has been here five years, much less 50, will see the momentum in our growth, on campus and beyond, in all areas of our mission – education, research, and patient care. In the last 10 years, our faculty has increased by more than 1,000 members, and our workforce has increased by 6,000 members. We've grown in both the breadth and depth of what we provide, and it's not just size; we can see the results of our commitment to continuous improvement.”

A special Employee Recognition issue of Center Times is available online, in PDF form, and on news racks across campus. The issue showcases each honoree with a profile that outlines their commitment to UT Southwestern and their varied interests. Each profile is a reminder of the depth and diversity of talent, skills, and passions that make UT Southwestern an extraordinary place to work.
