Tuition Assistance Program
As a leading academic medical center, UT Southwestern includes education as one of the three key tenets of its mission. Combined with discovery and healing, education enables us to promote health and a healthy society, empowering individuals to achieve their full potential.
Through our Tuition Assistance Program Policy EMP-305, we strive to support our employees on their personal journeys toward higher education – whether they are seeking to advance their current career path, pursue a degree toward a new “in-demand” position, or complete an education plan to move within their field.
Employee Eligibility
A UT Southwestern employee must meet the following criteria before the course start date to be eligible for this program. Please see full eligibility requirements for more details.
- Work full time and be benefits-eligible (a minimum of 32 hours per week).
- Complete 12 months of total service with UTSW.
- Finish any required probationary periods.
- Remain in “good standing” (no disciplinary action received within the past 12 months).
- Receive a Satisfactory Performance Evaluation (documented as “Meets Expectations” or higher).
Eligible Degrees
Academic degrees (e.g., associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees) from accredited U.S. colleges or universities qualify. Certifications are not included in this program; however, we highly recommend consulting with your department regarding possible other funding for certifications.
Eligible degrees must:
- Align with an employee’s current position and serve as a career growth opportunity
OR
- Meet the qualifications for an “in-demand” position as determined by the AVP of Talent Acquisition and current recruitment needs
Reimbursement
If all criteria are met, UT Southwestern can offer a tax-free reimbursement credited toward tuition costs up to $5,250 per calendar year (limitations apply).
