Support for Federal Training Grants

To recognize and encourage the effort involved in obtaining and successfully managing federal training grants, faculty members serving as contact PI of R-25, R-38, or T-32 grants will receive $5,000 in annual supplemental administrative compensation (SAC) for the duration of the grant.

All UTSW faculty are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

Faculty members serving as contact PI of R-25, R-38, or T-32 grants. In the event multiple faculty members share responsibility for directing a grant, the $5,000 SAC may be shared.

Eligible Awards

NIH Research Education (R-25)

R-25 grants are designed to encourage the development and implementation of creative and innovative research education programs that serve undergraduate, medical, and Ph.D. students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows.

Mentored Research Pathway in Residency and Stimulating Access to Research in Residency (StARR) Awards (R-38)

The R-38 Mentored Research Pathway in Residency and StARR programs are meant to encourage postdoctoral-level health professionals to pursue careers as physician-scientists and clinician-investigators.

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (T-32)

T-32 grants support the development or enhancement of research training opportunities for predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows.

How Awards Are Determined

The Office of the Provost will review faculty awards to determine eligibility and reach out to the contact PI on the award to discuss payment options.

Payment Options

Faculty members serving as contact PI of R-25, R-38, or T-32 grants will receive annual SAC payments of $5,000 for the duration of the grant and may elect to share the SAC with a co-director or relinquish the whole amount to another faculty member who runs the program.
