Dr. Suhny Abbara and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) have published the inaugural issue of the online journal Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, providing a much-needed platform for curated cardiothoracic imaging content.

“The body of clinically impactful imaging research and advancement in cardiothoracic imaging has increased substantially over the past decade, and this journal will give authors an outlet for sharing their knowledge,” said Dr. Abbara, who serves as the publication’s editor. “This new publication will cover all aspects of cardiac, vascular and pulmonary imaging.”

“Being the inaugural editor of this journal is quite prestigious, and we’re proud that Suhny is representing not only his subspecialty but also our department,” said Dr. Neil M. Rofsky, Chair of Radiology. “He brings a wealth of cardiac expertise to his role as editor, in addition to extensive experience as an author and reviewer.”

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Abbara serves as Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division. He also directs the Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship program. Before joining the faculty in 2013, Dr. Abbara was Director of Clinical Cardiac Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital and Director of Education for the Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Computed Tomography (CT) Program and an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School.

“I am passionate about cardiothoracic imaging because of the positive impact it has on our patients’ lives,” Dr. Abbara said. “It pinpoints medical conditions and enables the delivery of personalized, precision medicine. This journal is dedicated to improving patient care.”

RSNA has long published the foremost peer-reviewed journals in the field of radiology, namely, Radiology, which has been published since 1923, and RadioGraphics, which was first published in 1981. The organization launched its first subspecialty journal Radiology: Artificial Intelligence early in 2019, followed by Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging. A third new subspecialty journal, Radiology: Imaging Cancer, is scheduled to launch later in 2019.

Neil M. Rofsky, M.D., M.H.A., FACR, holds the Effie and Wofford Cain Distinguished Chair in Diagnostic Imaging and serves as Co-Director of Translational Research for the Advanced Imaging Research Center.
