Donors & Families

Our donor service area covers much of North Texas, including districts historically supported by Lions Clubs International when eye banking programs transitioned to our organization. We provide support in additional areas when needed.

Our Services

At UT Southwestern’s Transplant Services Center, we are committed to supporting the gift of donation every step of the way.

  • Our highly trained recovery technicians safely recover tissue for those in need.
  • Our full-service eye bank is staffed by specialists who carefully process ocular tissue to meet the needs of the community.
  • Our distribution team ensures that all types of tissue—ocular and non-ocular—are safely transported across the globe.
  • Our team of screeners evaluates every potential donation opportunity, helping complete the circle of care for donors, recipients, and families.
  • Our outreach team provides hospital education and family services, guiding and supporting health care professionals and families throughout the donation process.
  • Behind the scenes, our quality and clinical review teams work around the clock to maintain the highest standards and ensure safe practices at every stage.

Together, we help make the gift of donation possible – safely, efficiently, and with care.

Chelsea’s Gift: A Legacy of Sight and Movement

Kim had battled an eye disease called keratoconus for many years. Over time, Kim’s vision worsened to the point that glasses and contact lenses could no longer correct it. Seeking help, Kim turned to her ophthalmologist, who believed that a cornea transplant was her best chance to restore her sight.

Talk to Your Family About Your Wishes

One of the most important steps in becoming a donor is sharing your decision with your family. Having this conversation ensures your loved ones understand and can honor your wishes.

How to Register as a Donor

  1. Online through your state’s donor registry. Access Donate Life Texas.
  2. At the DMV when applying for or renewing your driver’s license or ID.
  3. Through MyChart, where patients can register their decision to become a donor directly within their health portal.

Important Note:

Individuals under 18 can still register as donors. However, it will be considered an intent to donate, and parental or guardian consent will still be required at the time of donation.

Every registration has the potential to save and improve lives through the gift of donation.
