Angela Rogers Appointed Chief of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Angela Rogers has been selected as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, effective September 1, 2026.

Dr. Rogers currently serves as Professor of Internal Medicine at Stanford University, where she is also Associate Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship and Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency. Additionally, she is a member of interdisciplinary research communities at Stanford, including Bio-X and the Cardiovascular Institute, reflecting the breadth of her scientific collaborations.
Dr. Rogers leads a highly impactful research program focused on the biology and treatment of critical illness, particularly sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Her work uses advanced genomic and multi-omic approaches to better understand disease severity, identify patient subtypes, and guide therapeutic decision-making. Through extensive publications and collaborations, she has helped define molecular “endotypes” and biomarkers that predict outcomes and enable more precise, individualized care.
Her research has contributed to major advances in the field, including studies of immune responses in sepsis and COVID-19, biomarker discovery, and clinical trials exploring innovative therapies for ARDS. Her group has also developed biobanks of critically ill patients to accelerate discovery and translate findings into improved patient care.
In addition to her academic, research, and clinical work, Dr. Rogers is an active leader in the American Thoracic Society and has been recognized for excellence in clinical care, including being named Stanford Health Care Physician of the Year.
Dr. Rogers holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Manchester College, which she earned magna cum laude. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed residency training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She then obtained advanced training through a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Harvard and earned a master’s degree in clinical effectiveness from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Rogers joined the Stanford faculty in 2013 and was promoted to Professor in 2025.
Dr. Rogers succeeds Dr. Lance Terada, who served as Division Chief for nearly 20 years.
