Burstein Appointed Executive Vice Chair of Internal Medicine

Ezra Burstein, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Director of the Inflammation and Digestive Diseases Research Center, has been appointed Executive Vice Chair of Internal Medicine. He also directs the Jean Wilson Society and previously served as Chief of the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases and Interim Department Chair. 

In this transitional role, Dr. Burstein will serve as a strategic adviser and executive partner to Samir M. Parikh, M.D., Professor and Department Chair, supporting major departmental priorities and providing leadership during a period of organizational transition. His responsibilities will include coordinating strategic and operational initiatives, supporting division chief recruitment and faculty affairs, mentoring Vice Chairs to align their roles and responsibilities, contributing to development of the upcoming fiscal year budget, and overseeing an audit of research space quality and utilization to guide the growth of the Department’s scholarly activities. 

“With Dr. Burstein's extensive experience within the Department and his prior service as Interim Department Chair, he is exceptionally well suited for this role,” said Dr. Parikh. “His deep institutional knowledge, understanding of Department operations, and established relationships position him to provide continuity and strategic guidance during this period of transition.” ■

Dr. Burstein holds the Berta M. and Cecil O. Patterson Chair in Gastroenterology. Dr. Parikh holds the Donald W. Seldin Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine and the Ruth W. and Milton P. Levy, Sr. Chair in Molecular Nephrology.
