Hospital Medicine Overview
The physicians of Hospital Medicine specialize in delivering high-quality, efficient care for patients requiring inpatient medical treatment. As a subspecialty of internal medicine, hospital medicine focuses exclusively on caring for hospitalized patients, with hospitalists available in-house 24/7 to address needs promptly and effectively.
Our teams manage both teaching and nonteaching medical services at Parkland Memorial Hospital, William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Texas Health Frisco, and the Dallas VA Medical Center, while also providing medical consultations and perioperative care.
Throughout each hospital stay, our hospitalists coordinate seamlessly with primary care providers and specialists, ensuring patients remain comfortable, informed, and supported through clear communication about conditions, treatment options, progress, and recovery.

Patient Care
Our hospitalists provide comprehensive, patient-centered services for hospitalized patients and their families, ensuring attentive, coordinated care throughout each stay. This includes performing rounds, exams, ordering and reviewing tests, monitoring progress closely, adjusting treatments, prescribing medications, and developing clear discharge plans with details on care provided, medications, and follow-up visits for recovery and support.

Research
The Division is uniquely positioned to study inpatient care across both a tertiary academic medical center and one of the nation's largest safety-net health systems. By evaluating similar questions in two distinct care environments, researchers can generate findings with broader applicability, helping health systems, collaborators, and funders assess whether evidence is likely to translate beyond a single institution.

Faculty
Our faculty includes nationally recognized leaders in hospital medicine who combine clinical excellence with education and research. Many hold leadership roles in clinical operations, quality, patient safety, medical education, and informatics across the hospitals and Department of Internal Medicine. They mentor physicians, advance best practices, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration to improve outcomes statewide.

Training & Education
We play a central role in medical education and training, teaching students and residents to coordinate care among multiple specialties, navigate clinical pathways, improve patient safety, and support quality improvement. We supervise many inpatient teaching services, providing frontline instruction in clinical decision-making to reduce length of stay, increase efficiency, reduce costs, and prevent errors while enhancing the patient experience.
