Fellowship

UT Southwestern’s Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases Fellowship provides specialized training designed to equip physicians with the skills needed to address the growing challenges of metabolic health. Through a combination of hands-on clinical experience, scholarly research, and collaborative learning, fellows develop a deep understanding of nutrition science and metabolic disease management. The program fosters critical thinking, mentorship, and professional growth in a supportive academic setting.

  • Application Process

    Fellowship application requirements include completion of the department application form. Refer to the fellowship(s) of your choice for further requirements.

    In addition, applicants must send:

    1. Three letters of recommendation (one letter must be from current Program Director)

    2. Original medical school transcript

    International Medical Graduates

    International medical graduate applications should be submitted through the Dean's office at the applicant’s medical school or through Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

    It is important to note that UT Southwestern's Department of Radiology only accepts permanent residents or J-1 ECFMG certified visas.   • Clinical Fellowship

    Eligibility Criteria for Clinical Fellowship

    Our two-year fellowship program is designed for physicians who are interested in pursuing an academic career in Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases. This is an unaccredited program affiliated with the Endocrinology Fellowship program. To be eligible for the fellowship, candidates must:

    1. Complete residency/postgraduate training

      Have completed residency/postgraduate training in Internal Medicine

    2. Valid ECFMG certificate and ECFMG sponsorship

      Have a valid ECFMG certificate and be sponsored by ECFMG if they are graduates of a foreign medical school

    3. Submit required forms

      Submit their curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendations

  • Research Fellowship

    Eligibility Criteria for Research Fellowship

    1. Two to three-year postdoctoral fellowship

      Two to three-year postdoctoral fellowship is offered to scientists with Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees interested in pursuing an academic career.

    2. Research

      Research is being conducted in the molecular mechanisms of lipodystrophies for both the genetic and acquired varieties.

    3. Available opportunities

      Opportunities are available to create knock-out mice for the genes responsible for lipodystrophies and to identify additional genes for inherited lipodystrophies using positional cloning approaches.

    4. Prior Experience

      Prior experience in molecular biology, cell culture, and genetic analysis is desirable though not required.
