Faculty Wellness invites all UT Southwestern Faculty to participate in the Faculty Wellness Retreat, June 7, 2024.
This all-day, in-person event is designed to help academic faculty maximize their own professional fulfillment while operationalizing change in their local healthcare environment. The day will feature interactive workshops, facilitated discussions, and networking opportunities to advance a culture of wellness at UT Southwestern.
Sessions held in person at UT Southwestern's Pegasus Park facility: 3000 Pegasus Park Drive, Dallas, TX 75247.

"Transforming Relationships for High Performance: The Relational Model of Organizational Change"

Jody Hoffer Gittell is Professor of Management at Brandeis University's Heller School where she teaches Organizational Theory, Research Methods, and Strategic Human Resource Management. She also serves as Chair of the Brandeis University Faculty Senate, Director of the Relational Coordination Collaborative, and Co-Founder of Relational Coordination Analytics. Gittell developed Relational Coordination Theory, proposing that highly interdependent work is most effectively coordinated through networks of shared goals, shared knowledge, and mutual respect, supported by frequent, timely, accurate, problem-solving communication. She also developed the Relational Model of Organizational Change showing how organizational actors can design structural, relational and work process interventions to strengthen relational coordination and support desired outcomes in times of crisis and beyond.
Dr. Gittell has published dozens of scientific articles and six books including The Southwest Airlines Way; High Performance Healthcare; Sociology of Organizations; Transforming Relationships for High Performance; and Relational Analytics: Guidelines for Analysis and Action. She is currently exploring the relational dynamics of multi-level systems change in organizations and ecosystems.

This interactive panel discussion engages with senior leadership at UT Southwestern, Parkland Health, and Children’s Health leadership to discuss from their perspectives the importance of psychological safety and efficiency optimization in the delivery of high quality and high reliability health care.

"Foundational Relationship-Centered Communication (RCC) to Enhance Team Efficiency, Trust, and Efficacy" (starts at 9 a.m.)
Join Jaime Harry, LCSW, Laura Kirk, MSPAS, PA-C, FACH, and Caitlin Siropaides, D.O., in this interactive, experiential skills workshop. We will review the evidence supporting relationship-centered communication in enhancing the efficacy and efficiency of team communication, and demonstrate how to build rapport, generate a shared agenda, elicit team member perspective, demonstrate empathy, and develop and communicate a collaborative plan with your team. We will spend most of our time practicing these new strategies in supportive, facilitated small groups. Bring one or two specific cases of challenging communication you have experienced at work and you will leave the workshop with at least one new communication skill you can use to enhance your communication within teamwork and leadership here at UT Southwestern.
