While UT Southwestern brings hope to its patients, Dian Polk once needed a little hope of a different kind herself – she got stuck in an elevator at the Paul M. Bass Administrative and Clinical Center.

Pattina Traylor has graced the campus of UT Southwestern with her smile for 35 years. As a Unit Secretary in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), that beam is a much-needed warm welcome for the parents – and babies - who arrive to a Unit constantly flowing with big triumphs and hurdles for tiny warriors.

His experience in a neighborhood pharmacy led to him securing a part-time job in 1983 as a Pharmacy Tech at the former St. Paul University Hospital while he took community college courses. Mr. Perez soon became a full-time employee. Fast-forward to today and his recognition as a 35-year UT Southwestern employee.

Add this to the list of jobs that no longer exist: addressographer. In the 1970s, an addressographer would operate a machine to prepare address plates, which involved feeding a mail piece into a machine and using a foot pedal to stamp the address. In 1973, Gwen Griffin applied for this job in the Admissions Department at the former St. Paul University Hospital, having just given birth to a son two months prior at Parkland Memorial Hospital. She did not get the job; the position had been filled.
