Rising Star Award

Established by the Texas Legislature in 2003, JAMP provides a pathway to medical school for economically disadvantaged students. Through a vigorous selection process with assistance from participating Texas medical schools, eligible applicants are interviewed, and then 100 are accepted statewide into the program each year, based on criteria established by the Legislature.

Idris honored with ACEP Award for Outstanding Contribution in Research

Samir Parikh, M.D., had one eye on the rich history of UT Southwestern and the other on its promising future when he accepted the position of Chief of the Division of Nephrology in the Department of Internal Medicine.

UT Southwestern’s School of Health Professions will honor 132 degree candidates from six academic programs, its first in-person commencement since the COVID-19 pandemic began, on Dec. 12.

UT Southwestern has received the 2020 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

UT Southwestern’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint can be seen in the variety of campus sustainability measures, including energy and water conservation programs and solid waste reduction initiatives, along with the expanded use of native plants, a lush tree canopy, and Monarch butterfly-friendly landscaping.

New chair of ophthalmology, J. William Harbour, is the new Chair of Ophthalmology, succeeding Professor Emeritus James McCulley, M.D., who led the Department for 40 years before retiring June 30 as Chair.
