UTSWMyCare app to improve patient communications

When Drs. Sandra Schmid and Michael Rosen began planning UT Southwestern's cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) facility, they shared a vision: They wanted the University to use the new technology as soon as it attained atomic resolution.

The first structures solved in UT Southwestern Medical Center's new $22.5 million cryo-EM facility and published in the prestigious journal Nature grew out of a dynamic collaboration.

For the 4% of adults who have nasal polyps, the surgery offers relief from congestion and nasal obstruction, may restore the sense of smell, and reduces snoring and other symptoms, said Matthew Ryan, M.D., Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, who with his colleagues performs more than 700 advanced sinus surgeries a year.

The project is designed to honor groundbreaking women at UTSW and to inspire female students and adults to pursue careers in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) fields.
