As the challenges of the pandemic continued into 2021, UT Southwestern became even more steadfast in efforts to engage, inform, and connect with the community.

UT Southwestern’s health care heroes provided exceptional patient care in 2021 despite the ups and downs of working during a pandemic.

In 2020, UT Southwestern made a concerted effort to connect with the community – before and then after the pandemic that brought unique challenges.

Through the years, friends of UT Southwestern have been steadfast supporters contributing to the institution’s progress and growth. Outdoing themselves once again, our benefactors made significant gifts in 2022 – both large and small – to advance these efforts, including helping the Medical Center reach its $1 billion goal for brain research and care.

As the challenges of the pandemic continued into 2023, UT Southwestern became even more steadfast in efforts to engage, inform, and connect with the community.

Three new facilities opened or broke ground to enhance care options for patients, including construction of The Texas Behavioral Health Center at UT Southwestern in December, addition of a new facility to treat cancer patients in November, and opening of UT Southwestern Medical Center at RedBird in August.

Donors raised nearly $4.5 million for UT Southwestern efforts this year, contributing more than 600 individual donations of funding, services, or products.

In 2020, the unprecedented challenge of discovering a vaccine and treatments for COVID-19 unleashed the strengths of UT Southwestern physician-scientists.

This past year offered more proof of that impact, including approval of a first-in-kind drug to treat a rare autoimmune disease that evolved from UTSW basic research to a finding that mechanical hearts can spur regeneration in dormant parts of failing hearts.
