Stanley Cohen, M.D., Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine, has been selected to be a Peer Perspective Board member for Healio Rheumatology, a new monthly print news magazine reaching 6,100 physicians.

The 16-member board is comprised of key opinion leaders from prestigious institutions. The members provide editorial commentary and perspective on breaking news for Healio Rheumatology, scheduled to launch in March.

Dr. Cohen is in private practice at Rheumatology Associates. He is co-Director of the Division of Rheumatology at Presbyterian Hospital, and is Co-Medical Director of Metroplex Clinical Research Center.

Dr. Cohen majored in biology at the University of Virginia, graduating phi beta kappa, and received his medical degree, also with honors, from the University of Alabama School of Medicine Honor Society, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. He then completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital, as well as a fellowship in rheumatology at the former St. Paul University Hospital.

Dr. Cohen is board certified in internal medicine with subspecialty certification in rheumatology. A Fellow and past President of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), he has served on the ACR’s Research and Education Foundation (2000-2002), its Board of Directors (2001-2004), and its Executive Committee (2005-2008).


Brett M. Coldiron, M.D., is serving as President of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). The Academy announced its new officers on March 25 at the conclusion of its annual meeting in Denver.

Dr. Coldiron is a dermatologist in private practice in Cincinnati. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and completed his dermatology residency at UT Southwestern in Parkland Memorial Hospital before securing a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic surgery at Northwestern University.

Dr. Coldiron also serves as a clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Cincinnati. His AAD roles have included serving as a member of the Academy’s board of directors and as a past chair of the academy’s health care finance committee.


Johann Fernando, Ph.D., has joined Stamford, Connecticut-based FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., as Chief Operating Officer. As COO, Dr. Fernando provides day-to-day leadership and management for sales, business operations, and service within FUJIFILM, a provider of diagnostic imaging products and medical informatics solutions. He also leads the effort to expand Healthcare IT business and drive collaboration across business units.

Dr. Fernando earned his doctorate in radiology imaging from UT Southwestern and also has an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. Trained as a medical imaging physicist, Dr. Fernando has worked in positions of increased responsibility and leadership with Picker & Marconi Medical Systems, Agilent Technologies, ADAC Labs, and Philips Healthcare. Most recently he was Vice President and General Manager for Accuray.


James E. Moore, M.D., Ph.D., has been named Chief of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford. Dr. Moore previously was at Children's Medical Center Dallas, where he served as the Director of its Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Moore graduated from Syracuse University and earned masters, doctoral, and medical degrees from Emory University. He completed his pediatric residency training at UT Southwestern and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Boston Children's Hospital, where he was also named Chief Fellow.


Lookman Lawal, M.D., has joined Southwestern Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute in El Paso.

Dr. Lawal, who is a board-certified cardiologist, completed both his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins/Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, and completed his fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Lawal earned his medical degree at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and completed a second clinical fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at UT Southwestern, along with a second year of advanced fellowship training in electrophysiology, where he focused on complex ablation therapies for arrhythmias.

Dr. Lawal is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society, American College of Cardiology, and American Medical Association among others.


James E. Moore, M.D., Ph.D., has been named Chief of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford. Dr. Moore previously was at Children's Medical Center Dallas, where he served as the Director of its Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Marty Wade, Plano Deputy Chief, served as the city’s interim fire chief in 2015. Mr. Wade started his career in 1989 when he joined Plano Fire-Rescue. He has been promoted numerous times throughout his career, notably to fire apparatus operator in 1995, Lieutenant in 1999, Captain in 2001, Battalion Chief in 2007, and Deputy Chief over Community Health Systems in 2013. Mr. Wade earned his EMT-Paramedic certification in 1991 from UT Southwestern School of Health Professions.


Derek Williams, M.D., a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, has joined the Florida-based BayCare Medical Group and has practices in both Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

A board-certified surgeon, Dr. Williams earned dual undergraduate degrees with honors in molecular and cellular biology and in economics from Vanderbilt University before earning his medical degree Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Williams completed his internship and residency in general surgery and his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Williams’ clinical interests include coronary revascularization, heart disease, and robot-assisted thoracic surgery. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
