UT Southwestern Medical Center launched a new venture in early February as co-publisher with the Texas Tribune of a health care newsletter called Trib+Health.

Focused on the broad topic of health care, Trib+Health will be an important destination for policy makers and peers in the medical community.

“As we begin 2015, the pace of change in health care has never been greater,” said Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, President of UT Southwestern. “It is being reshaped virtually continuously by new medical knowledge, and changing expectations including increasing transparency and accountability, as well as marketplace, political and regulatory forces.

“That is why access to reliable information is more important than ever,” Dr. Podolsky said. “Whether a provider, consumer, or payer, everyone should want to understand perspectives on health care related issues in Austin and Washington, as well as those within the industry.”

The goal of the partnership is to bring UT Southwestern’s longstanding and deep involvement in all dimensions of health care, as well as medical science and education, to the public discussion of these critical issues.

An online, nonprofit news organization, the Texas Tribune has developed a broad following since it was founded in 2009, as demonstrated by more than 141 million page views. Its content has also been a regular feature in media, such as The New York Times and the Washington Post.

As an academic medical center, UT Southwestern has a mission found at the nexus of patient care, medical education, and research. Faculty and staff discover new therapies, train the next generation of doctors, and provide care to all those who come in need.
