As Academic Colleges evolve, mentorship need soars

 

Experienced mentors will continue to be in demand in coming years, as the students’ curriculum needs expand. The good news is that the ranks of the mentors will grow as well.

3 faculty members inducted into Shine Academy

 

Three UT Southwestern Medical Center faculty members – Dr. Elizabeth Brickner, Dr. Celia Jenkins, and Dr. Biff Palmer – were elected recently to the UT Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., Academy of Health Science Education.

Scientists find potential treatment for Friedreich’s ataxia

 

Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have identified synthetic RNA and DNA that reverses the protein deficiency causing Friedreich’s ataxia, a neurological disease for which there is currently no cure.

“My son was a miracle when he was born and his life ended making miracles for others,” Vicky Blair said of her 17-year-old son, Shon, who lost his life in 2014.

Class of 1980: Joe Spann, M.D. was presented the 2015 Travis County Medical Society Physician Humanitarian Award on Dec. 9, 2015, for his volunteer medical work in Liberia during last year’s Ebola crisis.

Clinical Nutrition grad receives Schermerhorn award

 

Lilian Nwora, a December 2015 graduate of the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions’ Master of Clinical Nutrition program, has received the 2015 Student Service Award in Honor of Dr. John W. Schermerhorn.
