The Office of Research Regulatory Affairs (ORRA) provides oversight and support to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations governing research. ORRA’s mission is to promote ethical, compliant, and secure research practices that uphold the highest standards of integrity and participant protection. ORRA encompasses several key programs and offices, including:
Human Research Protection Program/Institutional Review Board (HRPP/IRB)
Safeguards the rights and welfare of research participants. The UTSW HRPP has been fully accredited by AAHRPP since 2019.
Regulatory Support and Monitoring
Assists sponsor-investigators with regulatory requirements and monitors research for compliance with state and federal regulations, guidance, and institutional policies.
Conflict of Interest
Manages disclosures and mitigates potential conflicts to maintain research integrity.
Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee
Ensures ethical and compliant conduct of stem cell research.
Research Security
Ensures protections of research information from foreign influence by establishing policies and oversight of foreign travel, supporting a strong cybersecurity program, and training UTSW researchers.
Export Control
Ensures adherence to export control regulations for international shipments, travel, collaborations, and researchers.
