Applicant Information
The UT Southwestern PM&R Residency Program will accept applications for nine categorical positions in the 2025-26 application cycle. We will no longer have advanced positions available in our program.
We strongly prefer that every applicant to our program submit at least one standardized letter of evaluation (SLOE) from a PM&R physician (or group of PM&R physicians) for the 2025-2026 application season in lieu of a narrative letter of recommendation. Letter writers can access the SLOE from the Association of Academic Physiatrists website.
It is recommended that applicant's ERAS Personal Statements include 1-3 sentences describing why you are applying to UT Southwestern for PM&R residency. We anticipate receiving many preference signals this year, and it will be helpful to know what specifically draws you to our program.
Residency Application Timeline
- Sept. 24, 2025: Applications are downloaded for review by the Residency Leadership Team.
- Oct. 10, 2025: Interview invitations will begin to be extended on a rolling basis.
- Interviews are virtual and will be held on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings from late October through early January.
- Resident social hours take place via Zoom the same week as the interview. Attendance is highly encouraged. You will have a lot of fun with our amazing crew!
UT Southwestern is committed to a transparent and fair recruitment season.
- We have a holistic application review process. Each application is reviewed by multiple members of the residency leadership team and scored across 13 diverse domains.
- We do not use cut-offs for grades or USMLE/COMLEX scores.
- Geographic and program preference signaling are one of many considerations for an interview invitation, but are not manditory to receive an invitation.
- We only support J1 Visas.
- Approximately 100 applicants will be invited to interview for nine positions. The number of interview invitations will not exceed the number of interview spots.
- Applicants have 72 hours to schedule their interview and resident social hour before the spot is offered to another applicant.
- Applicants on the wait list will be notified on a rolling basis as interview slots become available.
- All interview scheduling will be on the Thalamus platform. Interviews will be conducted virtually on Zoom.
- Second-look opportunities will be available. These sessions are organized solely by current residents and will not impact final ranking as they take place after the rank order list is determined. Faculty members (including the residency leadership team) will not be present. Second-look events are only for applicants to get to know our residents, our facilities, and our city.
- Thank You cards/emails are not required and are not taken into consideration in determining final rank order. However, if you choose to send a message of thanks, it will be appreciated!
- Our department will not communicate with you regarding your status on our rank list.
