Melton Named Chief of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service at the VA North Texas Health Care System

Dr. Shelby Melton from the Department of Pathology was selected as the new Chief of the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) at the Veterans Administration North Texas Health Care System in Dallas (VANTHCS), after 10 years as a staff pathologist and almost a year as Interim Chief.
Dr. Melton bring proven leadership at the local, region and national levels to his new role. At VA North Texas, he is Chair of the IRB, and was named VA Top Provider in P&LMS (2019 & 2022). He is the Pathology Team Lead for the UT Southwestern Esophageal Diseases Center. Dr. Melton is Past-President of North Texas Society of Pathology and also of McGovern Medical School Alumni Association, where he still serves on the Board of Trustees. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Membership Affairs Committee for the Association for Molecular Pathology.
Dr. Melton received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston before completing his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He completed fellowships in Gastrointestinal Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he holds a faculty appointment as Associate Professor of Pathology.
