Dr. Diego H. Castrillon from the Department of Pathology was named to the most recent class of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) fellows, one of the most distinct honors within the scientific community. Fellows are selected annually for their contributions to their respective fields and the body of science as a whole. Election as an AAAS Fellow is a lifetime honor and all Fellows are expected to meet the commonly held standards of professional ethics and scientific integrity.

Dr. Castrillon was honored “for distinguished contributions to the study of gynecologic malignancies and for developing new approaches and model systems for endometrial cancer”.

The 2021 class of fellows was recognized during a virtual induction ceremony on Feb. 19 at the AAAS annual meeting. Other UT Southwestern Faculty named 2021 AAAS Fellows were Dr. Kim Orth (Department of Molecular Biology) and Dr. Vanessa Sperandio (Department of Microbiology).

AAAS was founded in 1848 and includes more than 250 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals. The nonprofit AAAS is open to all and fulfills its mission to "advance science and serve society" through initiatives in science policy, international programs, science education, public engagement, and more.
