Mission, Vision and Goals

Mission Statement

The mission of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) is to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in our department, provide a welcoming environment in which all groups feel a sense of belonging and promote equality of opportunities. 

Vision Statement

We envision a department where the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion are embedded in the framework of everything we do, as core institutional values that drive decision-making with the goal of ensuring equal opportunity for all faculty, trainees, and staff. 

Goals

  • Obtain data to assess the current climate in the department and gain an understanding by learning about perspectives and experiences related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our department
  • Increase the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities in our training programs, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with planning and creating a core curriculum for DEI/healthcare disparities/SDOH for trainees, faculty, and staff to include education in cultural competencies and implicit bias.
