Thank you for your interest in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Our mission is to provide excellent primary care to our patients and their families, to train culturally competent family physicians to serve North Texas, and to conduct clinical and community-based participatory research to positively impact our patients and our community.

We have a diverse faculty with advanced training in geriatrics, hospice and palliative care, sports medicine, sleep medicine and residency education. Our faculty are part of many national and state organizations, where they play significant leadership roles.

Examples of these organizations are:

  • American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
  • Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM)
  • Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM)
  • Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP)
  • The North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG)

Among our training sites are William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Parkland Health and Hospital System, Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, and Children’s Health. During residency training, we offer specialized training tracks of Community Action Research, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and Global Health. In addition to the third-year family medicine clerkship and fourth-year subinternships for medical students, many of our faculty serve as medical student colleges mentors and provide student research mentorship. We also provide clinical service to many through free clinics across the Dallas community.

Some of my major initiatives for UT Southwestern are:

  • To build the research capabilities of our faculty
  • To strengthen the discipline of Family Medicine through the generation of new knowledge and innovative ways
  • To providing primary care that improve the health of those we serve.

I am proud to be a part of this team of distinguished faculty! We are committed to providing excellence in medical education, research, residency training, patient care, and community service.
