The national prominence held by the Department of Dermatology in basic and clinical investigation has continued to increase. The Department currently holds over $2.5 million in annual research support. Members of the faculty play major roles in national research organizations, including the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Dermatology Foundation, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the Photomedicine Society.

Most clinical research in our department is investigator initiated. Moreover, faculty members conduct research-oriented subspecialty clinics that offer patients unique opportunities to participate in clinical research and garner experience with new and emerging therapies. Conditions treated include: morphea, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, disorders of pigmentation, vitiligo, immunobullous diseases, cutaneous lymphomas, contact dermatitis, pigmented skin lesions, complex medical dermatology, photobiology, and skin cancer.
