New Frontiers in Care

The Cosmetics Department, led by Dr. Goff, has added an exciting new treatment option with the arrival of a Fractional CO2 laser. The laser is used to tighten skin, treat texture, pigmentation, and fine to moderate lines and wrinkles in the skin. It is also used to treat scarring and is particularly effective for acne scars. There is minimal down time of about one week before patients can wear makeup and return to a normal skin care routine.

The laser works by removing the top skin layer down to the level of the dermis which is the collagen-containing layer of the skin. This stimulates the skin to develop new collagen. The results are natural because they rely on the body’s own healing process which leads to skin texture improvement. This improves surface texture in a manner that fillers and peels alone cannot achieve. The laser heats the water in the dermal layer of the skin which vaporizes the treated tissue when the laser is in contact with the skin. Micro-pixels of treated tissue then slough away triggering a wound healing process and new collagen synthesis.
