Benjamin Nguyen, M.D., was the recipient of a 2025 UTSW Leaders in Clinical Excellence Award in the mentoring category for demonstrating exceptional commitment and effectiveness as a mentor to health care providers. These awards were established in 2018 and honor clinical faculty committed to patient care, teaching, and UTSW. Dr. Nguyen is one of two faculty recognized for outstanding mentoring and one of 10 faculty overall to receive an award this year!

Dr. Nguyen mentors learners at every level, from college students to fellows. He is the Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship Program Director, is involved in the Spasticity Fellowship, and is a beloved attending for residents during consults and Spasticity Clinic.

His most impactful mentorship is through the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP), where he has been a cornerstone since 2012, fostering caring and competent future physicians. Through JAMP and Dr. Nguyen's guidance, hundreds of college students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds receive exposure and mentorship while pursuing medicine. Some of our very own residents and alumni have been JAMP graduates and credit Dr. Nguyen for being a huge influence on their decision to pursue physiatry.

Dr. Nguyen is approachable and supportive when teaching. He always greets you with a smile and a joke and never makes you feel bad if you answer a question incorrectly. He also comes in clutch on knowing where the good snacks are located! He's fun to work with, and we are very fortunate to have him as a teacher and mentor.

Congratulations, Dr. Nguyen!
