2025-2026 Vernie A. Stembridge Winners Announced
The Vernie A. Stembridge Faculty Teaching Award is presented annually in honor of Vernie A. Stembridge, M.D., in recognition of his dedication and commitment to excellence in house staff teaching. Dr. Stembridge was the Pathology Chair from 1967 until 1988.
Residents choose two faculty recipients (one AP and one CP) for their role in the residents' training.
This year's recipients are Assistant Professor Megan Wachsmann, M.D. for Anatomic Pathology, and Professor Weina Chen, M.D., Ph.D. for Clinical Pathology.
This is the first time each recipient has won the Stembridge Teaching Award. Although her Mentorship in Resident's Research has been lauded four times previously, this is the first time Dr. Chen has won the CP teaching award. No stranger to excellence in teaching, this is Dr. Wachsmann’s third teaching award, having previously twice won the Department’s Medical Student Teaching Award.
Drs. Wachsmann and Chen both received a small plaque, and their names have been engraved on a larger permanent plaque that hangs in the Chair's Office. Congratulations to both.
