Pathology Residency Program

The UT Southwestern Pathology Residency Program is strong in both clinical practice and academics. Our program sees its particular role as offering residents early exposure to a broad spectrum of practice paradigms and subspecialties in Pathology to enable an informed choice of career path, followed by a flexible curriculum tailored to each resident's individual professional goals. The curriculum includes both service and scholarly activity, since service-oriented residents see through research the future of their specialty, while academically oriented residents see through service the practical aspects of their research.

The program offers combined training in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as focused tracks in either Anatomic or Clinical Pathology alone. Also offered is a Research track, as well as fellowship opportunities in a large variety of Pathology subspecialties and entry into UT Southwestern's Physician Scientist Training Program.

Program Mission and Aims

Program Mission and Aims

  • Program Mission

The mission of the Pathology Residency Program is to educate residents as competent providers of pathology services, as scholars, as teachers and as life-long learners, in an environment that structures training activities to maximize educational value and to promote and maintain physical and emotional well-being in its trainees.

  • Program Aims

The program aims to offer residents early exposure to a broad spectrum of practice paradigms and subspecialties in Pathology to enable an informed choice of path toward an academic or a service-oriented career. To facilitate each resident's professional choice by tailoring our flexible curriculum to that choice. To give each resident broad exposure to aspects of pathology beyond their specific area of interest, since service-oriented residents can see through research the future of their specialty, while academically oriented residents see through service the practical aspects of their research.
