Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming every part of academic medicine – from the way we diagnose disease and conduct research, to how we manage hospital operations and improve patient experiences.

At UT Southwestern, we are championing AI as a systemwide tool to enhance clinical decision-making, accelerate scientific discovery, and improve efficiency, sustainability, and equity of healthcare delivery. AI’s true value comes from responsible integration across disciplines:

  • In clinical care, it supports diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination.
  • In research, it helps uncover insights in large, complex datasets.
  • In education, it personalizes learning experiences and enhances simulation-based training for students.
  • In administration, it streamlines operations, reduces waste, and improves access for patients and staff.

Responsible Use of AI

The UTSW Information Resources team have created guidelines around AI Responsible Usage and Data Security and Privacy. Individuals should refer to these guidelines before using AI tools at UTSW. Additional local guidance regarding acceptable use for these models, such as patient care implications, traceability, and monthly budget thresholds (if applicable) will be added as they become available.

If you would like to learn more about the Principles of Responsible and Ethical Conduct when using Generative AI, please refer to the training page for links to videos available through our Percipio training library. These tools/resources are for UTSW community and may require access to MyUTSW (intranet).
