Medical Center STARS Summer Research Program Student Alumni This eight-week program is designed to give teachers and students an opportunity to work side-by-side with a faculty host in a research laboratory. Participants are paid a stipend and are required to present the results of their research at the end of the summer. An important purpose of this program is to encourage students of the Dallas Independent School District with excellent academic records and a love of science to purse

The STARS Summer Research Program gives science teachers and students an opportunity to work in a research environment. During the summer of 2011, 16 secondary science teachers from around the state of Texas, 35 high school juniors from Dallas-Fort Worth, and one Eastfield College student participated in an eight-week summer internship working in research laboratories on the UT Southwestern campus and affiliated institutions.
