Neil M. Rofsky, M.D., the Department of Radiology's fourth chair, understands the department's legacy of excellence and innovation and came to head the department during another time of unprecedented expansion.

James Martin's extraordinary life took him from the small town of St. James, Missouri, to the burgeoning city of Dallas. After attending the Vichy Normal and Business Institute in Vichy, Missouri, he completed studies in general medicine at St. Louis College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Richard Medford’s first experience with clinical informatics came as an undergraduate in Canada when he hustled to build a database from paper records of patients who had been screened for SARS during a 2003 outbreak of the virus.

Dr. Jack Reynolds left such an impression on students that they frequently asked to take his classes a second time. Fourth-year medical students lined up for his elective course in diagnostic radiology, which simply became known as "Jack Reynolds."

Dr. Daniel Scott, Assistant Dean of Simulation and Student Integration at UT Southwestern, and Krystle Campbell, Director of Simulation Center Operations, will share their experiences and perspectives with the campus community in an upcoming President’s Lecture Series. Titled “Imitating Reality: Using Simulation to Improve Patient Care,” the virtual event will be presented at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

Dr. Bruce Mickey, a UT Southwestern neurosurgeon praised by many of his patients for his personal touch as well as his precise hands, has been named Professor Emeritus of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Stephen Spurgin, a UT Southwestern pediatric cardiology fellow, has been accepted into the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP), a highly competitive national program that helps pediatric doctors in training become skilled physician-scientists. A $200,000 grant from this program, sponsored by The Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs and funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, will support Dr. Spurgin’s pediatric heart health research.

UT Southwestern honored its nearly 800 community members who identify as veterans at its 10th annual Tribute to Veterans ceremony on Nov. 11. The event celebrated these individuals for their patriotism and willingness to serve our nation.
