On a cold March 1, less than five years after the opening of William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, UT Southwestern officials, physicians, nurses, and clinical staff gathered with architects and construction executives – as well as descendants of the hospital’s namesake, the late Texas Gov. Clements – to celebrate a milestone toward completion of the hospital’s third tower.

UT Southwestern organic chemist Dr. Uttam Tambar has been awarded the 2019 Norman Hackerman Award in Chemical Research. The prize recognizes his work using synthetic chemistry to build complex biologically active molecules and to streamline pharmaceutical production.

Mr. Du is a fifth-year graduate student in the UT Southwestern laboratory of Dr. Zhijian “James” Chen – Director of the Center for Inflammation Research, Professor of Molecular Biology, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. Mr. Du recently presented the Nominata Lecture, describing his work on innate immunity to an audience of faculty members and fellow graduate students. Traditionally, that talk is the final one in the University Lecture Series attended by the University’s top researchers.

UT Southwestern researchers used cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to determine the near-atomic structure of the smallest membrane protein solved to date. Their work could lead to better immunotherapies in cancer and improved treatments for autoimmune diseases like lupus.

Arnoldo honored as first recipient of Purdue Chair in Burn Care

Dr. Greenberg, Associate Professor of Neurology and Neurotherapeutics and Pediatrics, a Distinguished Teaching Professor, and Director of the Perot Family Foundation Neurosciences Translational Research Center, presented the latest developments in his field at the annual campus event. The Symposium featured lectures from several Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute specialists.

Vanatta III spent more than 50 years of his career as a physiology professor at UT Southwestern. He lived during a divisive time in our nation’s history, but he strongly believed in unity and inclusion. In 1999, he established the Vanatta Scholarship Fund for African-American Medical Students.
