The Briggs Laboratory at UT Southwestern studies how parasitic helminths shape host immunity, with a focus on the mechanisms that determine protective immunity, immune tolerance, and the broader bystander consequences of chronic infection. We integrate experimental models, human immunology, and field-based studies to understand how helminth-driven immune remodeling influences coexisting conditions such as cancer, coinfections, and vaccine responses, while translating mechanisms of immune tolerance into new therapeutic pathways for allergies and inflammatory diseases.
