"Endotrophin: Small Peptide, Large Implications" Speaker: Lisandro Maya-Ramos, M.D., Ph.D. PSTP Fellow Division of Cardiology UT Southwestern Medical Center About Lisandro Maya-Ramos: Dr. Maya-Ramos holds a bachelor's degree in human biology from the University of California San Diego. He earned his medical degree and his doctorate from the University of California San Francisco. He then received internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern. Under the mentorship of Joseph Hill, M.D., Ph.D., and Philipp Scherer, Ph.D., he is investigating the role of adipose tissue extracellular matrix derived peptides in inflammatory diseases, including heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. In 2023, Dr. Maya-Ramos was one of only 25 scientists nationwide selected for the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Hanna H. “Genetic and Acquired Lipodystrophies: Decoding Human Metabolism Through Rare Disorders” Speaker: Abhimanyu Garg, M.D. Professor of Internal Medicine Division of Endocrinology UT Southwestern Medical Center About Abhimanyu Garg: Originally from New Delhi, India, Dr. Garg received his medical degree and completed his residency in internal medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He performed fellowships in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and at UT Southwestern. He joined the faculty of UT Southwestern in 1988. Dr. Garg is a leading expert worldwide on lipodystrophy treatment and research. He was the first researcher to test the hormone leptin as a treatment for lipodystrophy as part of a clinical trial that started at UT Southwestern in 2000.
